The Michigan Supreme Court has ruled in favor of opponents to a Berrien County Sheriffs Department gun range in Coloma Township. Local residents had fought to get the shooting range shut down, arguing that the noise it created was a nuisance, and that the Sheriffs Department never got permission from the township to open it in the first place. On Wednesday, the state high court ruled that the county should have gotten township permission to open the facility, meaning that the gun range will have to be closed. Sarah Jollay, who's been involved in opposing the range since 2005, says that the state court ruling protects the rights of local communities:
The higher court's ruling overturns an appeals court decision that had been in favor of the gun range.
