SJ Planning Commission Again Recommends CVS Proposal

The proposal to build a CVS Health store in the city of St. Joseph has cleared its latest hurdle before the city commission takes a final vote. The Planning Commissioner voted 5-1 Thursday in favor of the Planned Unit Development along Niles and Myrtle Avenues.

Developer Eric Harvey is encouraged by the vote.

Included in the proposal is an extension of Napier Avenue past Niles to accommodate the parking lot for the business. As in past hearings there was argument against the proposal, but this time only by one man, David Snyder, who held the podium for just over an hour.

This is the second time developers received approval by the planning commission. They were sent back to the planning commission by the city commission in late July, with instructions for that body to hold one more public hearing regarding an extension of Napier Avenue.

Also approved Thursday was a sign variance. It allows installation of an electronic message board and three larger than standard size signs planned within the development. The city commission will take up the PUD at its September 22 meeting.
