The possible extension of Napier Avenue by a few hundred feet past Niles Avenue will be discussed Thursday afternoon by the St. Joseph Planning Commission. It's the last hurdle that developers seeking to build a CVS Health on the land now occupied by Florin Funeral Home need to clear before a final vote by the St. Joseph City Commission. The city commission sent the Planned Unit Development back to the planning commission on July 28 to allow them to hold a hearing and vote on the Napier extension, which would be for the parking lot of the business. The reason the city commission took that action was they learned that MDOT did not require the requested extension of Napier Avenue onto the site to be a public street. The Planning Commission had already voted 5-to-1 to approve the PUD, but at that time it did not include the fourth leg of the Niles-Napier intersection as a part of the plan in anticipation of MDOT's actions.
