The Benton Harbor school board will hold a special meeting tonight to vote on whether or not the district should enter into a consent agreement with the state of Michigan. Last week Governor Snyder confirmed his determination that the school system was in a financial emergency. Trustees passed a resolution earlier this month wishing to enter into an agreement, but it was premature due to Snyder not yet making his confirmation. If adopted again tonight, the state would give 30-days to allow for negotiations to establish benchmarks and goals for the district which faces a $15-million deficit. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Central Administration building.
