A suburban Chicago man is lucky to be alive, but is not out of the woods yet after nearly drowning Saturday afternoon in Dewey Lake. 24-year-old Abdi Adan is in critical condition at South Bend Memorial Hospital. Neighbors helped pull him out of about 15 feet of water after he started struggling and disappeared while trying to swim a life jacket out to his sister, who was trying to kayak to shore. According to the Cass County Sheriff's Department, Adan did not have a pulse when first responders arrived, despite the efforts of neighbors doing CPR. Once he was revived, he was taken by Med Flight to South Bend. The Sister Lakes Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance also assisted in reviving Adan.
