Berrien County Parks Doing Well Compared To 2013

The year started off well for the Berrien County Parks Department with a jump in revenues compared to a year earlier due to a lot of snow, and that momentum is continuing through summer. County Parks Director Brian Bailey tells WSJM News that disc golf at Madeline Bertrand County Park is getting more popular.

Revenues at that park in South County is up 37% compared to last year. Bailey credits a lot of it to winter, but adds the disc golfers have kept it going. Attendance at Silver Beach County Park is also up from 2013, even with a cooler summer. Non-resident day passes sold to people coming in to Silver Beach from outside Berrien County are driving the growth at the beach in 2014.

Bailey says 2012 was a banner year for the park with the hot, dry summer and adds this year is coming close to those attendance figures.
