Downtown Parking Lot Sold In EDC Land Transfer

By the order of former Emergency Manager Tony Saunders, Benton Harbor's freshly created Economic Development Corporation has transferred three parcels of land. Two vacant lots in the city's neighborhoods were given back to the city, while a parking lot in the Art's District was sold to Prairie Real Estate Group. City Commissioner Duane Seats voted against that move.

The parking lot on Territorial Road is between The Library Pub & Eatery, also The Ideal Place Restaurant. Peter Colovos with Prairie says it will remain a parking lot for the immediate future.

As for the corporation, EDC Chairman and City Mayor James Hightower says it will meet when needed.

In one of his last actions as Emergency Manager, Tony Saunders ordered the three parcels be turned over from the then defunct EDC.
