During His Final City Meeting Commissioner Bowens Hints At Possible Political Future

In his final meeting as a Benton Harbor City Commission, Trenton Bowens had a message for city residents. He encouraged them Monday to stand up and, quote, "fight for what's right, fight for your city."

Bowens announced earlier this summer his resignation effective September 1. In it he says Benton Harbor is now two different cities. One the, quote, "old, run-down part of the city where all the residents live that resembles a war zone and a new, vibrant downtown area that is beginning to resemble Martha's Vineyard." Though Monday was Trenton Bowens' final day as a Benton Harbor City Commissioner, don't think he's leaving the public eye for good.

Also in his resignation letter he says it's nearly impossible to make change in the city, quote, "when a few members of the city commission are not focused on working together." During Monday's meeting Bowens went down the line giving either complements or sometimes raw acknowledgements to every member of the board, including City Manager Darwin Watson. Bowens ended his comments by saying the city still has "mountains to climb" and the "greatness of Benton Harbor lies within its people."
