Hightower Shocked And Disappointed By Ruling

Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower was shocked and disappointed to hear Berrien County Judge John Dewane's Tuesday ruling regarding a recall election. Dewane decided the recall will proceed because enough valid petition signatures were submitted. Originally the county clerk disqualified all signatures of people who signed more than once, which Dewane ruled is a violation of the First Amendment.

Hightower says testimony showed one sheet of signatures was not circulated by the signer which is a violation of election laws.

He says Berrien County needs to step in.

Tainted or not the election will proceed. Hightower says he was ready to run last spring, and he's ready to run again this fall.

Hightower says his opponent City Commissioner Marcus Muhammad will not win the November 4 election.
