Lakeshore Eleventh Graders Posting Strong Exam Scores

Eleventh graders at Lakeshore High School are standing strong academically compared to state averages. Superintendent Phil Freeman reports most of the district's Michigan Merit Examination scores or MME increased compared to last year.

There was a 3.9% rise in math scores, 2.6% increase in reading, 5.5% in writing, also a .7% increase in science scores.

The only percentage decrease was found in social studies where students earned a 67.3% scoring average or a 1.6% drop over last year's scores. Though the percentage fell Freeman say Lakeshore's 67.3% scoring average is well above the state's 43.9%. He says no matter how good or bad, there is always room to improve. Another examination reported for the eleventh grade is the ACT.

Another significant change came in the form of college readiness. The ACT exam can track the percentage of students ready for high education. The district's percentage rose 6.3% to 34.9% of students being ready for college.
