County Commissioner Seats Files Election Complaint Against Challenger

As voters hit the polls in Berrien County today, one county commissioner is filing a complaint against her challenger. Marletta Seats says Joseph Taylor's campaign signs do not have a notification of who paid for them, which is a violation of election law.

It will be up to the Berrien County Bureau of Elections what happens with Taylor's campaign after today's election. Seats says she gave him three weeks to make corrections to the signs, especially after issues with signage came up in the county board race between David Yardley and Bill Chickering. In that race, Chickering had to change his yard signs to reflect he was running "for" the county commission, as his signs implied he was an incumbent. Seats adds that this election from the county level is unusual.

Other incumbents being challenged by candidates upset by how the county is doing business include Mamie Yarbrough, Jeanette Leahy and Deb Panozzo. All face primary opponents today. Lisa Gulley faces Yarbrough in a Democratic primary, while Bernd Krebs is challenging Leahy and Chad Clement is challenging Panozzo in Republican primaries. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
