Benton Harbor Man Earns Top Volunteer Leadership Award

David Kirshenbaum of Benton Harbor is the 2014 recipient of the Margaret B. Upton Volunteer Leadership Award. He received it last night during the United Way of Southwest Michigan Volunteer Recognition Event. Kirshenbaum is a member of the Rotary Club of St. Joe/Benton Harbor, he has led the Student Essay Contest as a chairperson and committee member for more than 20-years. He was nominated for the award by the Area Agency on Aging. Organizations say he works with a ‘never say no’ and ‘no problem is too big to tackle’ attitude, which inspires others. Kirshenbaum will receive $3,000 from the Frederick S. Upton Foundation to donate to the non-profit organization of his choice. Other winners from last night include Katlyn Zimmerman of Grace Christian School and Eleanor Hein of Niles High School. They won the Live United Youth Scholarships for Berrien and Cass County. Each gets a $500 scholarship for her education.
