Dr. Seawood Thanks Board; Shares MDE Report

Benton Harbor Area Schools Superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood is thanking the school board for extending his contract as the district's leader.

The district faces a $15-million deficit. Two more years have been tacked onto Seawood's current contract. It pays him $126,000 annually under a 10% pay cut all district workers accepted a few years ago. He says a report from the Michigan Department of Education shows district staff is under paid.

Seawood says that can make it hard to attract new talent to the district.

Governor Snyder is expected to make an announcement soon regarding whether or not the district is under financial stress.
