City Officials To Hear Convenience Store Proposal

A new convenience store could soon be built in Benton Harbor. The Planning Commission will hear plans from Corwin Kyle of Benton Harbor at its next meeting. Kyle submitted plans to build a store along Pipestone Street between Jefferson and Washington streets. The property requires approval from the City Commission because it is in the central business district. The plans call for a one-story brick veneer building with 14 parking spaces. Plans also show a six foot high fence along the back between the property and the residential area behind it. The spot is currently vacant. Anything the Commission approves must also get an OK from the Benton Harbor Receivership Transition Advisory Board. The Planning Commission next meets August 12 at 1 p.m. in City Hall.
