Conflict Of Interest Questioned

A call of 'conflict of interest' has been made by a candidate for Berrien County Commission regarding two acting board members. Chad Clement of Stevensville is running to represent the 7th District. He disagrees with Corporate Council Donna Howard's release dismissing both Commissioners Jim Curran and Debra Panozzo of holding incompatible offices.

After his comments Thursday, Clement, as a point of reference submitted a copy of Leelanau County's conflict of interest policy to the Board. Near the end of the meeting Commission Chairman Jon Hinkelman publicly shared the conflict of interest policy currently in place at Berrien County. It dates back to 1985, thus nullifying Clement's submission.
