AEP, St. Joseph Public Safety Looking Into Attempted Scam

Indiana Michigan Power and the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety are looking into an attempted scam that happened Monday. A business owner received a call from someone claiming to be from the power company demanding immediate payment using a prepaid "green card" from Walgreens. Indiana Michigan Power spokeswoman Erica Putt says they don't operate that way.

She adds that unfortunately, these scams happen and some people get swindled.

The business owner was told they were going to have their power shut off in 45 minutes unless they paid up.

There are, however, several places you can go to pay your power bill with cash. Putt says those include Hardings in St. Joseph and D & M Supermarket, Kartar Foods, C&C Bus Station and Walmart in Benton Harbor.
