BHAS Financial Review Team Hears From Public

The public has voiced its thoughts and concerns about the Benton Harbor Area Schools to the state appointed financial review team. The hour long meeting Wednesday introduced the five member team appointed by Governor Snyder to the community. No matter what the review team decides, Trustee Joseph Taylor says the district will continue to fight.

Though a financial emergency has not been declared, Superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood wants to remain transparent with the public by sharing what the district has been preparing for.

Laura Montey is the district's IT Manager, she says Superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood is steering the school system the best he can through hard times.

The financial review team has until August 22 to issue a report to Governor Snyder. Once that happens the report becomes public and will be available on the Department of Treasury website. The district carries a roughly $15-million deficit.
