Pinkney Trial Pushed Back To October

The criminal trial of activist Edward Pinkney has been postponed until October. The trail which was to start July 21 is being pushed back, because Pinkney's attorney is handling a different trial that starts today. During a status conference on Monday, Berrien County Trial Court Judge Sterling Schrock said he was delaying the trial over concerns about Tat Parish handling a pair of complicated cases back-to-back. Pinkney's next status conference will now be held October 20, with jury selection on October 23 and the trial scheduled for October 27-31. He is facing multiple charges of election fraud for allegedly altering the dates on petition signatures to recall Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower. In addition to Pinkney, Parish is representing shooting suspect Demon Thompson of Benton Harbor. He allegedly shot a man last October.
