Sheriff Bailey Defends High-Speed Chase In Benton Harbor

Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey is defending the actions of his officers last week. Deputies engaged in a high-speed chase through Benton Harbor when a suspect took off after being pulled over. Bailey says his officers are not affected by any rules in the city of Benton Harbor that ban police from engaging in chases.

20-year-old Will Jakes was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended license, resisting officers, failure to stop at an accident and possession of marijuana. According to Bailey, Jakes was shocked that he was pursued.

Bailey says that perception needs to change. Video of the chase was posted to our Facebook page by a Benton Harbor resident.
