Indiana Michigan Power Explains Restoration Procedures

A week ago, many of us were dealing with not having power and wondering when the lights were going to come back on. We spoke to Indiana Michigan Power's Brian Bergsma about how they handle massive outages. He says the first thing their crews do is find out exactly what happened to their grid.

Bergsma says the top priority is always to restore electricity to critical care facilities like hospitals and emergency communications. After that, they attack the largest outage areas first, eventually getting down to where there may have been pockets of outages. With those, it would be cases like the house across the street from you has power, but you're still using flashlights and candles to get around.

Full restoration in Berrien County from last week's storm was done Saturday after the lights went out late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
