I&M To Add Solar Power

Indiana Michigan Power is going solar. The utility has announced a clean energy pilot project to build and operate five solar generation facilities. If approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, I&M's Brian Bergsma says another emission-free source of power will be utilized by company.

The facilities will be located in different areas of the company's service territory, including the South Bend area and parts of Michigan. Those locations have yet to be finalized. The estimated cost of the project is $38-million, which would result in a minimal impact on customer rates of less than 1%. Construction will start and finish in 2016.
