A judge ruled Thursday that sufficient evidence was presented during Edward Pinkney's preliminary hearing to bind him over for trial on five felony charges of violating election law by forging documents. The "Herald-Palladium" reports Berrien County Trial Court Judge Charles LaSata denied Pinkney's motion to cancel the bind over. LaSata found the evidence applied to what Pinkney is charged for, though the defendant claimed it was too vague. He's accused of altering some signature dates on recall petitions seeking to recall Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower. James Cornelius of Benton Harbor faces a misdemeanor charge related to the petitions. Pinkney faces felony charges and also six misdemeanor counts. He has requested to postpone his July 21 trial. A hearing is set for Tuesday.
