St. Joseph Planning Commission Approves CVS Proposal

The St. Joseph City Commission will take up the Planned Unit Development proposal to build a CVS pharmacy at Niles and Napier at their July 14 meeting. The city's planning commission voted 5-1 Thursday night to approve the plans following a three and a half hour public hearing. Developer Eric Harvey is pleased to move forward.

Harvey spoke to WSJM News after talking to Rick Stobbelaar and others who live within a few yards of the site, as they have been opposed to the development since the start.

Stobbelaar contended that a different development would be preferred, even a gas station.

William Beck was hired by Florin to come up with a new development for the property, and told those who waxed nostalgic about the days when Niles Road was residential and had no commercial properties that they can't stay in the past.

Christine Barker was one of those who pushed against the development.

Discussions have been ongoing for most of this year to build the CVS where Florin Funeral Home now stands.
