Mateen Cleaves Bringing 1 Goal 1 Passion Baskeball Camp Back To Benton Harbor

Michigan State basketball legend Mateen Cleaves is headed back to Benton Harbor in July for a three-day basketball camp. Cleaves led the Spartans to the NCAA championship in 2000 and is MSU's only three-time All-American. He tells WSJM News that the camp will be for kids from eight to 17 years old, and will only cost $1 per person to attend.

Cleaves explained why he's teamed up with Meijer to fund the cost of the camp for kids.

The camp will be July 22, 23 and 24 at Benton Harbor High School. You can register online at, with registration opening up Saturday, June 21. Cleaves will bring with him former MSU teammates Morris Peterson and Charlie Bell and is also working to have Draymond Green and Antonio Smith attend.

Cleaves tells WSJM News that in high school, playing against Benton Harbor made an impact and that's one of the reasons he is holding a camp here for the second year.

There is a chance Spartan coach Tom Izzo could come by to talk to the kids that are in middle and elementary school. NCAA rules prohibit him from talking to the high school players. Cleaves will also hold the camp in Lansing from July 29-31 and in his hometown of Flint from August 5-7.
