South Haven Addressing Smelly Tap Water

The city of South Haven is dealing with funky smells and tastes in its tap water. City Manager Brian Dissette tells us there are a few causes of the smell.

Another issue is water use, as some parts of the city's distribution system didn't use much water over the cold winter.

They're doing that by flushing fire hydrants in areas where concerns have been raised.

Dissette adds other communities including the cities of Wyoming and Holland are dealing with the same smell issue. The water is safe to drink, though the taste has been described as "earthy" or "like pond water." If people have concerns, Dissette asks them to call the city's Department of Public Works at 269-637-0737.
