Congressman Upton Saddened By Friendly Fire Deaths Of Five U.S. Soldiers

With just months to go before U.S. combat troops leave Afghanistan, five American troops have died in one of the worst friendly-fire incidents involving U.S. and coalition forces since the start of the war there. Congressman Fred Upton says the deaths underscore the dangers in the war-torn area.

Officials say the five were killed Monday by an apparent coalition airstrike in southern Afghanistan. A senior police official in the province says the soldiers were in a joint operation with Afghan forces when they came under attack from the Taliban and called in air support.
