Marrone Bio Innovations To Expand In Bangor

A $10 million guaranteed loan is coming to Marrone Bio Innovations from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, calling the loan to expand the bio-based manufacturing facility in Bangor a "prime example of how USDA helps local businesses have far-reaching payoffs." MBI will add up to 50 jobs with the expansion. The company transformed a shuttered biodiesel plant into its Southwest Michigan headquarters to produce bio-based fungicides and insecticides that are environmentally friendly. USDA notes the company will contribute over $1 million a year in wages to the local economy when the expansion is complete. There is no indication in the announcements from either the Agriculture Department or the company as to when the expansion will be complete.
