A decision could be made next week whether activist Edward Pinkney could be bound over for trial. Berrien County Prosecutor Michael Sepic and Pinkney's lawyer argued several hours Friday in Berrien County Trial Court. The "Herald-Palladium" reports a preliminary hearing was held for the 65-year old Benton Township man who is accused of changing some signature dates on recall petitions. A police forensic expert testified several signature dates were changed to recall Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower, but has no way of knowing who changed them or when. Pinkney is charged with five felony counts of election forgery and faces up to five years in prison on each count. Trial Court Judge Sterling Schrock says the preliminary hearing will resume 1:30 p.m. next Thursday.
