Benton Harbor Commissioner Muhammad Upset By Minority Conviction Rates

Benton Harbor City Commissioner Marcus Muhammad says eight out of ten people convicted of felonies at the Berrien County Court House are black males.

During Monday's City Commission meeting he said Commissioner David Shaw's recent conviction is just one example of what is happening on the County level.

He noted the jury which convicted Shaw was all white, as were the prosecutor and judge. Muhammad says the trial reminded him of vintage footage from the south in the 1960's. Commissioner Shaw was convicted Friday on two counts of resisting and obstructing police.
