BH Officials Discuss Future Of CDBG Loan Repayments

While hearing about the proposed 2014 Action Plan, which identifies how federal grant funds will be spent by the city, certain Benton Harbor leaders learned how annual loan repayments of more than $115,000 from their Community Development Block Grant balance may not be needed.

Assistant City Manager Marja Winters says the repayment period for one of the deficient loans dosen't end until 2022. She recently talked with HUD officials, who don't have certain documents that would put the City in compliance with their Section 108 Loan Repayment. Winters says she's on a quest to see what the City can do to recoup this money, because it’s a lot to pay every year for eight years.
