Lakeshore Rotary Donates $11,000 Toward Marching Lancers D-Day Trip



The Lakeshore Marching Lancers are $11,000 closer to their $350,000 fundraising goal for a trip to France. At Monday's school board meeting the Lakeshore Rotary Club presented the board with a check to be put toward the students┬ĺ trip to Normandy. Eric Bauchet, who heads the fundraising committee, says the last fundraising event will happen Friday, May 23 in Detroit.

The Rotary donation puts the funds-raised over the $300,000 mark. Larry Klett, who is in the Rotary, has a granddaughter in the band. She recently visited Klett's 92 year old cousin, who is a World War II veteran.

The marching band is invited to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. They'll do so by playing a special song on the beaches of Normandy at 9 a.m. Then later that day march in a victory parade through the city. Among performing, the students will also pour Michigan sand onto the grave of every Michigan soldier buried along Normandy's beaches.
