School Issues On Ballot In Berrien, Cass, Van Buren Counties Tuesday

Several school millages are being decided Tuesday around Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties. Voters are being asked to renew millages in the Buchanan Community Schools, Lakeshore Public Schools and St. Joseph Public Schools in Berrien County, while Watervliet Public Schools are asking voters to approve a $23-million bond proposal. That would cost the owner of a home with a taxable value of $100,000 another $39.58 a year in taxes. The money would go for security upgrades, new technology and a host of building and site improvements.

South Haven Public Schools are seeking a bond proposal of nearly $37-million to add on to the high school, make security renovations district-wide, obtain new technology and new buses along with repairing roofs and making fixes to the football stadium. Gobles Public Schools have a $7.5 million bond on the ballot. In Cass County, Edwardsburg Public Schools are seeking the renewal of the Non-Homestead operating millage.

White Pigeon Community Schools are asking for a nearly $1.7 million bond, and Marcellus Community Schools in Cass, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties have a nearly $13-million bond proposal on the ballot. The St. Joseph County ISD is seeking an increase in the Special Education Millage by nearly three-tenths of a mill in Cass and St. Joseph Counties. Polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm.
