St. Joseph Public Schools Seeking Renewals Of Two Millages

Two tax renewals are going to be on the ballot in the St. Joseph Public Schools on Tuesday. One is the renewal of the district's Non-Homestead Millage of 18 mills, which represents roughly 23% of the budget and without it, the district does not get full funding from the state.

Listen:

District business manager John Ruddell notes the 18 mill tax is a renewal of a levy approved in 2010.

Listen:

Ruddell says the millage is on businesses and second homes, not farmland or primary residences. Also before voters is a renewal of the Sinking Fund Millage, which is less than one mill and brings in about $950,000 a year.

Listen:

The projects that will be paid for through the Sinking Fund Millage were not included in the bond issue passed several years ago.
