Lakeshore Lancer Marching Band Are Presented Flags To Fly In France

The Lakeshore Lancer Marching Band will have some extra cargo to take on its trip to Normandy, France. During a ceremony Friday, Congressman Fred Upton, state Senator John Proos, and state Representative Al Pscholka presented the band with an American and State of Michigan flags. They'll fly while the band plays at the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion. Speaking at Whirlpool's Riverview Campus in Benton Harbor, Upton says nearly 650 Michiganders are buried along Normandy's beaches.

A check was presented to D-Day veteran and Whirlpool retiree Larry Michal so he can travel with the band, and return to Normandy for the first time since World War II. The band is scheduled to perform on Normandy's beach on the morning of June 6, and play in a victory parade later that day.
