The ongoing debate in the city of St. Joseph over what will become of the property at Niles and Napier currently occupied by Florin Funeral Home comes down to the fact that Florin needs to sell the property, which is zoned commercial, and something is going to move in. Following a three-hour Planning Commission meeting Thursday night, William Beck of Delta Management Resources told WSJM's Pat Moody that if CVS isn't approved for a pharmacy on the site, the other scenarios are worse for neighbors opposed to that plan. Beck has been hired by Florin to get the property redeveloped and he warns other possibilities are gas stations and fast food restaurants. He adds the traffic in the area is ideal for something like a CVS and says neighbors who want to see a dentist's office or something more low-profile simply aren't going to get their wish. Three planning commission members had to recuse themselves from Thursday's discussion due to potential conflicts of interest before the talks started.
