Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler is "relieved" that her request for a preliminary injunction to halt the mayoral recall election in Benton Harbor on Tuesday has been granted. In a statement, Tyler notes the decision by Judge John Dewane will protect the sanctity of the election process in the county. She called it difficult to seek the stay from the court to allow her office more time to examine the recall petitions, but also a necessary move. At issue are at least a dozen signatures that police allege had the dates changed to appear to have been signed within the 60-day window from when the petitions were submitted to the clerk's office to recall Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower.
