Representative Nesbitt: Budget, Road Funding On Table This Week

The state House is tackling budget bills as lawmakers have returned from their spring break. State Representative Aric Nesbitt says they're on the clock now to send the bills to Governor Snyder well ahead of the end of the current fiscal year on October 1.

The Lawton Republican calls the $100 million approved earlier this spring for the pothole surge a "downpayment" on finding the money needed to bring roads and bridges up to the standards that the governor desires. House Speaker Jase Bolger has a proposal to spend $500 million a year. Nesbitt is still studying Bolger's idea.

He feels Democrats need to get behind Bolger's proposal in order to make it work.

Governor Snyder has been pushing to have an extra $1.3 billion available every year for road repairs.
