CVS Developers Seeking Public Hearing On May 1

A public hearing is planned for the May 1st St. Joseph City Planning Commission meeting concerning the proposed CVS Pharmacy at Niles and Napier. Developer Eric Harvey and his business partners withdrew their rezoning request in March after several neighbors spoke out in opposition and gathered petition signatures to block it. Harvey tells WSJM News they want a public hearing next month to be sure everyone is heard.

The proposed site is currently home to Florin Funeral Home, which is planning to sell the property and relocate. People who live on Myrtle Avenue, which borders the property, have been outspoken in their opposition, citing traffic concerns, noise, light pollution and parking issues. Harvey wants the public hearing based on how the discussions went in the city to approve a new branch for United Federal Credit Union over the past few months.

He adds CVS remains committed to moving into St. Joseph and Berrien County.

The St. Joseph Planning Commission will next meet on May 1 at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall.
