Personal Property Tax Clarifications Sent To Governor Snyder

The Michigan Senate has given final approval to a package of bills that ensure local governments will be fully reimbursed for revenue lost from the phase out of the state's personal property tax on business.

That's St. Joseph City Manager Richard Lewis, who adds the situation isn't fully resolved yet.

The August ballot will include a proposal allowing the state to redirect use tax revenues to local governments. The bills headed to Governor Snyder are needed for local governments, especially those heavily dependent on revenue from manufacturing plants and the like. They include language that guarantees full reimbursement to communities. Earlier legislation fell short of full reimbursement.
