Berrien County Judge Dennis Wiley has been censured by the Michigan Supreme Court. Wiley's reprimand is from judicial misconduct in December 2012 when he sent a woman to jail for ten days for cussing in a courtroom in Niles. He did not witness the remarks made by LaRue Ford, but ordered her held in contempt of court and locked up. The American Civil Liberties Union intervened on her behalf. Ford spent Christmas 2012 behind bars for a remark made to herself as she was upset about fines and a hold being put on her driver's license.
