The timing of the resignation of Niles Community Schools Superintendent Richard Weigel is proving to be troublesome. He stepped down last month, and the school board has decided to delay searching for his successor because the most qualified candidates are believed to be under contract already for the 2014-15 school year. Interim Superintendent Kevin Ivers has posted a message on the district's website explaining the delay. Ivers is serving the Niles district at the same time that he's also still doing his job as the superintendent of Berrien RESA. He expects the school board will name a full-time interim superintendent to allow him to step aside in early April. The leading candidate is Dr. Michael Lindley, who was the New Buffalo Area Schools superintendent for 18 years.
