Recall Ballots Change; Confusion Possible On May 6

When voters step into the booth on May 6 in Benton Harbor and New Buffalo for recall elections, there's a chance they might be a little confused by the ballot. Instead of a "yes" or "no" question on recalling people in office, voters will be presented with candidates for that office instead. Fred Woodhams is a spokesman for the Michigan Secretary of State's office in Lansing and explains the change.

Listen:

That means voters in Benton Harbor who want to keep Mayor James Hightower in office would vote for him, while those who want to elect City Commissioner Marcus Muhammad to the top spot would vote for him. In New Buffalo, Mayor Margaret Murray is being recalled and challenged by Donna Messinger and Si-Osiri Si-Osiri and Councilman Ray Lawson is challenged by George Scarlatis. Voters head to the polls in those cities on May 6.
