Sunken Tugboat Brought Back To Black River Surface In South Haven

The Wilhelm Baum tugboat is floating once again in South Haven. The boat sank on the Black River in February and stayed under the icy water until crews from J&B Landing were able to bring it back to the surface on Saturday. They tried Thursday and Friday of last week to bring it up, but were unable to do so. The U.S. Coast Guard has not been able to figure out what caused the 91-year-old tugboat to sink as yet. Once it was lifted to the surface, it floated just fine. It hasn't been determined if the tugboat will be returned to service. Jim and Sheral Bradley of South Haven own the boat and have used it for search and rescue operations for the Coast Guard Auxiliary in South Haven for the past 30 years.
