St. Joseph Rescinds Parking Changes For Some Downtown Streets

Some downtown St. Joseph parking changes will not be taking effect on May 1. The City Commission voted Monday night to rescind changes that would have made 40 spots on the north end of the Downtown Development Authority area two-hour parking. Those will remain all-day spots. City Manager Richard Lewis presented the recommendation of the DDA.

The affected spots are along Ship, State and Port Streets. Smith-Dahmer Associates approached the city in late February, concerned that changing those spots would have a negative impact on their business as their clients are often in the office for more than two hours at a time. Other downtown businesses also concurred that those spots should remain all-day parking.
