BHAS Gets Offer To Sell Two Empty Buildings For $200,000

Two empty school buildings are potentially being sold for a total of $200,000 by the Benton Harbor school district. The board voted to sell Fair Plain Northeast and Calvin Britain to Harbor Hillcrest Homes LLC. The potential buyer wanted both schools and 17 parcels of land which were donated to the district. The board felt those lots were worth more than $250 a piece, and will try to renegotiate that part of the deal with the buyer. Trustee Joseph Taylor supported the move.

The 17 lots vary in size. For the two buildings, there's a deed restriction in the deal which says neither can be used as a school. The board hopes to hear back from the potential buyer soon regarding the extra parcels.
