Schools Announcing Make-Up Dates For Snow Days

Thanks to the harsh winter, students will have fewer days off this spring at area schools. St. Joseph Public Schools announced Wednedsay that students will be in class on April 24th, which had been set to be a day off for students for a teacher inservice. The other make-up day in St. Joseph will be May 23, which was to be part of a four-day weekend for Memorial Day. District officials tell parents in an email that they need a high percentage of students in class both of those days in order to receive full state aid for them. Lakeshore Schools are scrapping a professional development day on April 18 to make up lost time. Lancers will also be in class for a full day on June 5 instead of a half-day, and the last day of school for the year will now be a half-day on June 6. Benton Harbor Area Schools are deciding at a special meeting tonight, March 19, what their make-up days will be. That meeting starts at 5 p.m.

Note: This corrects an earlier version of this story which had one of the Lakeshore dates incorrect. We were told one date over the phone by the district office, and learned that was erroneous.
