MSP Urge Responsibility During St. Patty's Day Celebrations

The watchful eyes of law enforcement will be out this weekend making sure our roads are safe from impaired drivers. Michigan State Police Lt. Melinda Logan says St. Patrick's Day celebrations begin Saturday and last through Monday.

Even if you aren't partaking in any festivities, Logan says you need to be mindful of others on the road.

Due to St. Patrick's Day, the NCAA basketball tournament, and high school and college spring break periods, the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning says extra patrols from 144 agencies in 26 counties have been bumped up now through April 7. Last year, from St. Patrick's Day to the end of March Madness, agencies across Michigan made 2,271 arrests for drunk driving.
