Nuclear Security Officers Bill Set To Move In Lansing

State lawmakers are preparing to move forward on bills to increase the security at nuclear power plants in Michigan. State Representative Al Pscholka is the sponsor of the bill before the House, and testified in front of the Energy and Technology Committee about it Tuesday.

Berrien County Prosecutor Mike Sepic supports the bill and expanded on Pscholka's comments concerning the rights of the public.

Right now, state law will not allow the Nuclear Security Officers to use deadly force until a suspected terrorist or attacker is almost to the gates of the facility. The measure will expand that to better protect the perimeters of Cook, Palisades and Fermi and is similar to laws that have passed in five other states. Psholka expects the committee to send the legislation to the House floor next week.
