Cracking Down On Illegal Alcohol And Tobacco Sales To Minors

Minors are able to get alcohol and tobacco illegally on a consistent basis in the City of Benton Harbor, according to Deputy Director of Police Services Dan McGinnis. He spoke this week to the Legislative Committee, saying the city already has an ordinance for issuing liquor and tobacco licenses, but when it comes to enforcement they rely on the state.

McGinnis, and the City Manager, will draft an ordinance defining the penalties a business will receive if caught selling to minors. The issue will again be talked about at next month's Legislative Committee meeting.
