Anti Bullying Ordinance Tabled

A proposed anti-bullying ordinance in the City of Benton Harbor is on the back-burner, for now. The Legislative Committee decided to table the idea Wednesday until more information about fines and enforcement are hammed out.

Questioning the role a judge or law enforcement may play, Commissioner Marcus Muhammad says at this moment moving the ordinance to the full commission would do more harm than good.

Commissioner Trenton Bowens says he wanted thorough community dialog on the proposal before sending it to the full commission.

The proposal would make harmful behavior illegal in the City, holding parents accountable if their child is the one behind the bullying.
